Alcoholic Beverages: The mother of All Evils

Picture
What is Alcohol?
Alcohol is categorized as a DEPRESSANT, meaning it hinders and slows down vital functions leading to:
  • - Slurred speech
  • - Unsteady movement
  • - Disturbed perceptions
  • - Inability to react quickly
Khamr is derived from the word, khamara, which means "to hide, conceal, or cover". Since alcohol shrouds the intellect and reasoning of an individual, it is considered "khamr".
Alcohol is classified as”KHAMR" an Arabic term describing an intoxicating drink or substance.
Alcohol is an ADDICTIVE DRUG. It leads to a destructive and unhealthy lifestyle.

How Alkohol became Haram?

During the early days of Islam, drinking alcohol was very common. In the beginning, alcohol was not haram for the early Muslims. However, Prophet Muhammad (p b u h) always stayed away from it. He never drank khamr in his life. On day, a group of Sahabah brought up the evils of alcohol to Prophet Muhammad. Then Allah revealed the following verse:

يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْخَمْرِ وَالْمَيْسِرِ ۖ قُلْ فِيهِمَا إِثْمٌ كَبِيرٌ وَمَنَافِعُ لِلنَّاسِ وَإِثْمُهُمَا أَكْبَرُ مِنْ نَفْعِهِمَا ۗ

Harms of Alcohol

Long Term Health Effects of Alcohol
  • Through alcohol, the stomach gradually loses its ability to function properly.
  • Causes loss of appetite.
  • Make one age quicker.
  • Weakens and reduces the ability to think and speak properly. Causes heart failure.
  • Creates fights and tension between people.
  • Leads towards great sins, such as adultery and murder.
  • Wastes money
  • Causes liver damage.
  • Alcohol causes road accidents and innocent lives lost.

Why do people drink Alcohol?

Some say that it helps them to relax, other use it to celebrate and many drink it to become unconscious and run away from their severe problems. There are many reasons people make up to drink. But Alcohol is dangerous, and there is no good enough reason to drink it. Drinking alcohol makes people lose their common sense and spoil their minds. Alcohol can make you dizzy. Large amounts can blur your vision and make you lose your balance.

Alcohol is the Mother of All Evils

The Prophet Muhammad referred to Alcohol as the mother of all sins.

عن عثمان بن  عفان رضى الله عنه قال: قال رسوالله صلى الله عليه وسلم: ”اجتنبوا الخمر فانها أم الخبائث

'Uthman narrated that Rasoolullah once said: “Avoid drinking wine for it is the mother of all sins.”

This because after drinking alcohol, the mind is not steady. The mind becomes blurry and the person cannot think clearly. This may cause the person to commit other sins without realizing it.

MENTAL DRUGS

Introduction
Mental drugs does not mainly mean the alcohol & drugs etc, rather here mental drugs are referred to some harmful habits & addiction that can harm us like the addictive substance do.
Example of mental drugs are much of:
  • VIDEO GAMES
  • FASHION
  • TV SHOWS
  • Comedy, JOKES
  • MUSIC & DANCE
  • ARCADE GAMES
  • INTERNET
  • MOVIES
  • CHATTING
  • BAD PICTURES & VIDEO

Video Games
Islam does not forbid leisure or having fun in permissible ways. The basic rule concerning these games is that they are permissible so long as they do not get in the way of obligatory duties such as establishing prayer [i.e., praying properly and on time] and honouring one’s parents, and so long as they do not include anything that is haraam.
There are, however, many haraam elements in these games, such as the following:
  • Games which depict wars between the people of this world (“good guys”) and people from the sky (“bad guys”), with all its implications of accusations against Allah, may He be glorified, or the noble angels.
  • Games which involve sanctifying the cross or passing over or by it to gain strength, to bring one back to life or the give the player extra “lives” and so on.
  • Games which approve of witchcraft/magic, and which glorify witches/magicians/sorcerers, etc.
  • Games which are based on hatred of Islam and Muslims, like the game in which a player gets 100 points if he hits Makkah, 50 points if he hits Baghdaad, and so on.
  • Games that include depictions of nudity, and some games that allow the winner to see a pornographic picture; games that corrupt morals, such as games where the idea is to run away with a girlfriend from the bad guys or a dragon.
  • Games based on ideas of gambling.
  • Physical harm, such as damage to the eyes and nervous system; harmful effects of game sounds on the ears. Modern studies have shown that these games may be addictive and harmful to the nervous system, as well as causing stress and nervous tension in children.

Nudity, Immorality and Television
The most glaring evil propagated by the television media of the world is the crime of nudity and sexual immorality. Commercialised nudity and sexual immorality under the camouflage of "educational" pictures are accepted and necessary features of the world of television. The Western world is haunted by the obsession of illicit sex, and it is this carnal obsession of illicit sex coupled with the unbeliever's god of materialism, which makes capital of the female body on TV as well as all other mass media.

The Islamic concept of morality and modesty is the very antithesis of the immorality and lascivity dished out to the world via TV. Islam demands the concealment of the female body.

Jokes

Islam is a perfect religion it has set guidelines for everything, in every walk of life.
Remember that there are guidelines to follow, according to the Sunnah, when it comes to joking, laughing and having fun.
  • MAKE SURE you don’t make fun of any aspect of Islam: Jokes should not involve verses from the Qur’aan, hadith, or any of fundamentals of Islam. Unfortunately, some people tell jokes about the verses of the Qur’aan, Prophets, angels, or they make fun of the Hijaab, the beard, etc.
  • NEVER joke about something that is HARAAM
  • Say ONLY that which is true.
  • Don’t make jokes to make ‘FUN’ of people: Be careful that your joking does not hurt anybody’s feelings or harms them in any way. So don’t make those snide remarks or wink behind their backs.
  • Never scare anybody while joking or otherwise: Rasulullah (SAW) said: ‘It is not permissible for a Muslim to frighten another Muslim.’” (Abu Dawud).
  • Joking should not involve backbiting
  • Use appropriate language: Some people resort to immoral or obscene language when joking around, even though under ‘normal’ circumstances they would not even think of using such words. Rasulullah (SAW) said: “The Muslim does not slander, curse, speak obscenely or speak rudely.” (Al-Tirmidhi)

  • CONCLUSION

Allah gave you life time, knowledge, money, body and many other gifts in this life. He wants you to use them all in the best manner possible. He wants you to spend your life worshipping him doing good deeds and being good to people and environment. Shaytan, on the other hand, wants you to waste your life and everything God gave you in doing bad deeds and avoiding good work. During the Day of judgement, Allah will ask us all about how we used our time, our brains, our wealth and our bodies. Shaytan will not help us there, he will betray us. If we are into bad habits and mental drugs, during this life, we will b regretful in the day of judgment. If we used goods gifts as Allah wishes, we will enjoy a happy life here, and Jannah in the other life.
DRUGS AND ALCOHOL WHAT IS THE ISSUE:

Several occasions, Muslim youth turn to drugs as a means to get away from it all due to the pressure that society puts on them. Little do they know the effects long term and consequence it has short term. We are here to help our callers recognize these effects and highlight other avenues to face their issues rather than trying to escape from it. Believe it or not, prayer is one of the most relaxing postures you can do, and if done properly, spiritually and physically, your mind, body and soul will be restful
